Education

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from the University of North Carolina Wilmington as well as membership of Pi Delta Phi National French Honor Society. I spent a semester abroad in France studying international business and advanced French in Marseille. I also have a TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification of 140 hours, specializing in teaching English to children.

Experience

I am an American and native English speaker. I have a year of experience working as a casual English teacher in Melbourne Australia. My responsibilities in this role included preparing lessons and teaching elementary courses, overseeing and grading weekly assessments in speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and listening, preparing and reviewing assessment reports with students individually, maintaining an accurate record of teaching and student attendance, attending weekly staff meetings, discussing school progress and outcomes, as well as participating in personal development sessions. Prior to this, I worked as a casual English teacher in Brisbane, Australia. In this role I had to prepare lesson plans and teach intermediate courses, oversee and grade speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and listening tests, create and update student records on assessments, counseling, and attendance, in addition to ensuring that ROT was accurately completed and submitted. I have a few months of experience working as a casual English teacher in Sydney which involved teaching, overseeing and grading tests, planning and executing excursions around the city, and regularly logging and updating the record of teaching. I have also worked as a sales team manager in Melbourne which involved having to train and retain developing reps, hold daily training sessions before overseeing reps in the field, and ensuring individual and team targets were met. Prior to this, I worked as the head foreign English teacher at an academy in South Korea which required me to interview prospective applicants, train new teachers, teaching 30 classes a week, write daily reports for classes, as well as grade homework and assessments. I also have experience working as a substitute teacher in Roxboro, North Carolina in the USA, teaching English, science, history, physical education, and band.

Hobbies

I have a passion for learning about languages and cultures. I majored in French because I enjoyed learning about a language and culture different from my own. I teach English because I enjoy sharing my native language and culture with others. I still continue to push myself to learn the languages of my students. For example, I learned some Korean when teaching in South Korea and I'm currently working on Portuguese because I have so many Brazilian students. Consequently, I understand how difficult it is to learn a new language and I keep this in mind when I'm tutoring or teaching. Outside of academia, I enjoy film, music, swimming, surfing, rock climbing and photography. I drawn to most things outdoors, such as hiking and camping.
