Experience

Hello! I am a 33 year old professional English language arts teacher. I have experience teaching literature in grades 6-12 including 11th grade honors and AP and 12th grade honors and AP. I have experience grading and administering the NY state Regents exam. I can work after 5pm during the week and Saturdays and Sundays and through the summer. As a child I was enrolled in a private school, was homeschooled, and attended a public high school. For my undergraduate studies I attended Penn College of Technology where I fulfilled my general education credits and then transferred to Penn State University where I majored in English, World Literature, and French language and culture. I studied in Montpellier, France at L'Universite Paul Valerie where I took courses in French language and culture. Upon my completion of Bachelor of Arts from Penn State, I attended the University of Pittsburgh. At Pitt I majored in Social and Comparative Analysis in Education. My studies had me examining the philosophy and foundations of education from a global perspective. While working on my master's degree I worked for Apangea Learning, now Think Through Math doing educational research under the CEO. My elective courses while at Pitt were teaching classes in literature/ELA. I realized that while my studies had given my a strong foundation in education, my passion lay in teaching. At this time, I moved to Philadelphia where I went to Temple University and attained my teaching certificate in English 7-12. Following my completion of the program, I worked at a performing arts school where I taught 10CP, remedial writing workshop, 11AP, 12 honors, and 12AP. I also substitute taught at Moravian Academy, Saucon Valley SD, Parkland SD and additional schools in the Lehigh Valley. My next placement was at Samuel Fels High School in Philadelphia, PA where I taught 10th grade, 12th CP, 12AP and a comparative literature elective. I stayed with Samuel Fels until the district laid off a large portion of the district at which point I attained a job with Belmont Charter School where I taught 8th grade ELA and vocabulary for grade 6. I also worked an after school program tutoring students in ELA and math in grades 6-8, and I worked with student in grades 1-4 in a club setting. I currently am employed by a charter school in the NYC area teaching 12th grade ELA.

Hobbies

I am outgoing, fun, and enjoy connecting with my students. I am incredibly personable and I still am in contact with many of my former students. I understand that many students do not love reading and writing, but as a teacher, it is my job to find texts that students can really dig into and enjoy. I do this by looking for my students interests and passions. My experience in multiple educational settings as both student and teacher, I believe give me a deep understanding of education and effective methods of teaching. I do think that if your relationship between student and teacher/tutor is positive, learning is more effective and meaningful. I look forward to hearing from you!
