Education

I recently graduated from Newington College in 2017, with a score in the International Baccalaureate of 44, the ATAR equivalent of 99.85. I hope that the skills I learned through the IB can assist students to excel in the future, myself excelling in both examination and internal assessments through my experience in the IB. My interests particularly lie in history, geography, biology, and maths, and I know from personal experience, that simply passion in teaching can help motivate students to achieve. I am currently in my second year of studying a Bachelor of Economics/Law at the University of Sydney.

Experience

IB results: - Overall - 44 - Biology SL – 7 - English A HL – 7 - Geography HL – 7 - History HL (Europe) – 7 - Maths SL – 7 - Italian ab Initio – 6 - TOK/EE (Geography) - 3 I particularly excelled in the following subjects: - History HL mark – 88 (Boundary for 7 at 75) - Biology SL mark – 86 (Boundary for 7 at 76) - Geography HL mark – 81 (Boundary for 7 at 73) - Maths SL mark – 90 (Boundary for 7 at 86) My expertise is especially valuable in two of my courses where the IB has recently created a new syllabus: - History – First examinations in 2017 - Biology – First examinations in 2016 In these subjects, I am aware of new content and examination structures that only the most recent graduates have experienced. Prior to the IB, I also received academic excellence awards from 2012 through to 2017 (including Dux of Year 10), and thus also have the potential to assist in Years 7-10 English and Maths, having previously tutored in these areas whilst at school. As a recent graduate of the IB, I am aware that the programme is an arduous task for even the most gifted students. I am also aware of the sheer value of past IB graduates, who provide a rich source of expertise on many of the intricate details on how to tackle the IB, both more broadly and in particular subjects. As a tutor, I hope to reciprocate the same assistance that I received onto future graduates. As a tutor, I can assist my students throughout all the core areas of the International Baccalaureate. This includes focusing on understanding course material and applying this understanding to tackling questions, appropriate examination technique needed for the nuances of IB examinations, and assistance in formulating ideas for internal assessments as well as feedback on their drafts. I will also be able to provide numerous resources to assist my students, including past examinations and internal assessments, my own notes and materials including internally marked examinations that I have completed, and also my own submitted internal assessments. I received the highest marks in my cohort for my internal assessments in biology, history, geography, and maths, and therefore these are of particular value. I will also always be available to assist my students outside tutoring sessions (for free) for any queries they may have, via phone, email or Facebook. If necessary, I will also be available to provide tutoring sessions on short notice via Facetime or Skype.

Hobbies

I am a very social person, who loves to hang out with friends, go to the beach, and play sports including basketball. I also love reading, watching TV shows, listening to new (and old) music, and catching up on current affairs (with a strong interest in politics). I also love to travel, both around Australia and around the world. I love meeting new people and discovering new places, and this is where my love of history stems from.
