I am a Ph.D student at the University of New South Wales, writing a thesis in the discipline of Film Studies. I have experience tutoring at both the secondary and tertiary level: I teach film and media courses at university, and I have privately tutored secondary students in English and Maths in years 9-12. I have also been employed by the tutoring company, Power Coaching College, through which I have received consistently excellent feedback on my tutoring. My experience as a writer, researcher and tutoring in both one-on-one and group situations has allowed me to develop high level communication skills and the ability to explain difficult concepts to the student. My background in Linguistics has given me an in-depth understanding of the English language, which I can use to help non-native English speakers improve their language skills. My approach involves allowing the student to dictate the direction and pace of the lesson. I begin with identifying the problems they are having and helping them to set goals to reach their potential. Rather than merely providing answers, I see my role as a tutor as equipping the student with the skills to overcome the problems they encounter, so that their learning is enhanced in the future. I offer tutoring in 7-12 English, ESL, 7-10 Mathematics, Society & Culture and Drama. I also have extensive experience proof-reading and editing essays, and I offer my services in this area as well.
