Education
I earned my Ph. D. in 2010 from the Department of Biological Sciences at Macquarie University where I also earned the Wallace Award for Best Entomology Thesis. I was awarded an Honours Scholarship and an award for proficiency in the Biological Sciences program from Macquarie University in 2004, and I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in 2003 with a GPA of 4.0. I have also completed several professional development courses between 2008 and 2014 that focused on subjects such as transitioning to online learning, identifying students at risk for academic failure, and how to cope with language barriers.
Experience
I am a behavioral and evolutionary ecologist working at Macquarie University. I have a Ph. D. in Evolutionary Biology, and I have experience in many areas of education such as lecturing, tutoring, practical classes, and curriculum design. My teaching philosophy is to enthusiastically help students acquire the skills and confidence to achieve their academic goals. I strive to transform students and help them see the world from the perspective of a scientist, particularly a biologist. I consistently receive positive feedback from students, and I have won two teaching awards at Macquarie University for innovative delivery and assessment practices. I have ten years of tertiary teaching experience, which involved giving lectures and tutorials on evolution, ecology, zoology, and animal behavior. I have also provided post grad supervision in biology research and provided one-on-one tutoring sessions in biology and math. I also have two years of secondary teaching experience that involved one-on-one tutoring sessions in math and science, and one year of primary teaching experience at the Hwange National Park Primary School in Zimbabwe. I was also a mentor for NSW primary school programs that focused on natural history.
