Louisa R.

Private tutor in Sydney, Australia

Education

I graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts/Law (Hons I in Law). I majored in English and minored in Japanese. I also completed a Diploma of Languages in Japanese. I was placed on the Executive Dean's Honour Roll for the College of Arts and Law, received the James Upcher Prize for Law and the Merle and Phyllis Weaver Prize for Asian History.

Experience

I have been an English tutor at the school I graduated from, and I previously worked for a tutoring company. I have also privately tutored numerous students from 5th through 12th grade. I was tutored in chemistry and Japanese, so I know what it takes to be a good tutor. I want to be a tutor because I love teaching and passing on my knowledge. I enjoy seeing the happiness and achievements of my students. I am passionate about learning, and I want to share this passion with others. I helped a lot of my peers during the IB, and I was a successful student myself. So I understand that persistence is key. I was able to stay motivated despite all of the hardships I faced. So, I can empathize with my students. Since leaving high school, I have received a scholarship to study at UTas. I was a member of the University Law Review Board then it's Editor for 2022. and I have competed in numerous intervarsity moot competitions, volunteering for various university groups as well as for the Red Cross as part of the international humanitarian law volunteers. My main passion and interest is in tutoring English. I also love Japanese and history, and am qualified to tutor in any law subject. My main area of interest in law is the law of armed conflict/international criminal law, which is the field I wrote my First Class Honours paper on.

Hobbies

I am interested in sport, music, art, reading, and the outdoors. I did ballet for 10 years, and have played netball for 6, and was in my school teams for waterpolo, softball, netball, touch football, cross country and swimming. I have recently started rock climbing with my partner, and do hiking, canyoning and expeditions with him. I love music, having learnt the saxophone myself. I have a passion for art, having taken it as a subject myself, and often visit art galleries. As well as this, I read every day, making lists of the words I don't know to expand my knowledge, and keep a record of the books I've read. To me the best presents to receive are books, and I think this is why I excelled in Literature, because I have a deep interest and love for the way writing can create anything, and shape your identity and understanding of the world in a way that facts and other things cannot. At university, I found a new found interest in public speaking and mooting, as I have competed in a number of competitions for the university. My main interest is in trail running and completing ultra marathons, since I went to university in Tasmania which is trail running hub.
