Experience

Currently I am a University Tutor at UNSW. I tutor for a second year engineering course. I guide them through worked solutions and answered any questions the students have. In 2010 I volunteered in the Shack Tutoring Program, UNSW. As part of this volunteer program I provide educational assistance to disadvantaged high school students in the local community. In 2009 I was an assistant tutor at Basser College, UNSW. If students had any questions related to there course work they were welcomed to seek assistance from me. I have always been passionate about understanding maths and physics and in turn passing my knowledge onto others. I feel that teaching as well as benefiting the students greatly enhances my understanding of the material because students often ask question you my not have considered yourself. During my schooling and university life I always enjoyed helping fellow students with the subject matter, which in turn would benefit me in my studies. In order to become a university tutor I had to take a tutoring course. This course consisted of effective teaching strategies, acceptable conduct and management techniques. This was achieved through lectures presented by a qualified teacher and various role playing scenarios. During my time at University I have received various awards and participated in many programs. In 2008 and 2009 I received an academic leadership award at Basser College. These awards were nominated to me by the students that I had helped in their studies. In 2009 I was appointed as an Orientation Week, "O-Week" leader at Basser College, UNSW. Our team of 11 worked together to organise and run a week of events and activities for 62 new Basser College residents. Our team aimed to, and successfully introduced the new students to each other, the college and the University in a relaxed and supportive environment. In 2010 I became a peer mentor for the Engineering faculty of UNSW. As a mentor, I showed first year engineering students around the university and encouraged them to get involved within the university.
